From Skeptic to Believer: Dr. Beth DuPree’s Journey with Signal Relief
For nearly four decades, Dr. Beth DuPree has dedicated her life to healing. As a trauma surgeon, general surgeon, breast cancer specialist, and advocate for integrative medicine, she has witnessed firsthand the challenges of managing pain. But even with her vast medical experience, she was once skeptical of a small blue patch that promised natural, drug-free pain relief. That skepticism quickly shifted after her own remarkable experience with Signal Relief.
In this candid interview, Dr. DuPree shares her personal journey, her involvement with Signal Relief, and her vision for the future of pain management.

1. Background & Personal Story
Can you tell us a little about your background and what inspired you to pursue a career in medicine?
"From my earliest memories, I knew that I was a healer and in the USA that meant pursuing a career in medicine. My mother told me that I declared I was going to be a doctor when I was in second grade and really never deviated. I went to college with my ultimate goal of graduating with an academic record that would allow me to be accepted to medical school. I attained a BA in The History and Philosophy of Science and a BS in Behavioral Neuroscience. I graduated from Hahnemann Medical College, now Drexel Medical, in 1987 and spent five years in surgical training at Albert Einstein Medical Center in Philadelphia."
What areas of practice or research have you specialized in throughout your career?
"My 38-year surgical career began as a Level II in-house trauma surgeon for my first few years in practice and then as a general surgeon, practicing all aspects of general surgery for over a decade. Over a several-year period, I gradually transitioned into a subspecialty in disease of the breast as the treatment of breast cancer evolved and patients sought me out for my cutting-edge breast cancer care. I gained so much practical experience being a trauma and general surgeon, as I honed my skills as a split-second decision maker and I am so grateful for that journey."
Have you always been passionate about natural or alternative approaches to pain relief?
"My interest in healing and integrative medicine has been present since day one as a medical student, but began to accelerate when I started in private practice in 1992. My passion is not limited to pain relief, but as a surgeon pain relief is part of my everyday life as I create incisions that need to heal, and those incisions are painful.
I do not like to use the term “alternate” when it comes to medical interventions, I prefer to use the term “complementary” as there are many natural or non-invasive modalities that address the “root” cause of a disease or symptom. I am involved in several transformative healthcare technologies that disrupt the standard western medical “pill for the ill” model. I see myself as a change agent being given the opportunity and platform to shepherd and integrate novel technologies into western medicine."
2. Involvement With Signal Relief
How did you first get connected with Signal Relief?
"I was featured in a documentary in 2021 called The Healthcare Cure that was awarded the most impactful film of the 2021 Sedona Film Festival.
Watch the film here.
After a second videotaping for the film in the spring of 2021, the producer Chad called me and said, “Beth you NEED to know about an amazing technology I just got introduced to and I want you to try it NOW!”
I told him that I was leaving for Mexico in the morning for my 60th birthday trip and I would connect with him when I returned in two weeks. He responded, “No, you need to see this NOW!” I thought, wow, he is persistent. So much so, he had his wife drive two hours from Scottsdale to Sedona to get me patched that day and Rachel showed up on my doorstep with the patches a few hours later."
What was your initial reaction when you saw how the patch worked?
"I was beyond skeptical that a patch, that put nothing into your body and could be used for over a year and over your clothing, seriously, could alleviate pain - but I trusted Chad and thought there is no downside to giving it a try.
I placed it on my back at L4–5, where I’ve had a chronic disc issue since 2009. Remarkably, I traveled to Mexico with no low back pain, which I always experience when I fly. My friends Jodi and Steve also tried the patch for their own pain and both experienced fast relief. That was the moment I knew something real was happening."
What drew you to our technology and mission when you first learned about it?
"Our combined experience, as several mature adults with different types of chronic pain, pushed me to reach out to Mike, the founder of the company. After sending patches to friends and seeing their relief, even among women who had undergone back surgery, I was convinced. Clinical trials, personal experience, and the need for non-narcotic pain options were enough for me to leverage my reputation on Signal and Jovi. You are either part of the solution or part of the problem, and history will prove that I am on the right side of pain relief."
3. Contributions & Expertise
In what ways have you supported product development, education, or customer guidance at Signal Relief?
"I designed and oversaw the first clinical trial with the Signal technology where we found that 91% of participants were able to discontinue narcotics and 96% were able to discontinue over-the-counter pain medicines. I oversaw a product testing trial with Jovi for endometriosis and found over 70% of women experienced pain relief that OTC meds could not touch.
We are now launching a prospective randomized placebo-controlled crossover trial with Jovi in menstrual pain to once and for all prove the efficacy of our non-invasive technology."

Can you share a story or moment where you saw the patch make a real difference for someone?
"One of the most memorable moments was helping a medical student named Jacqueine, who was suffering from severe menstrual pain. Despite narcotics, Toradol, and Tylenol, she was still in debilitating pain. I literally took my Signal patch off my back and placed it on her abdomen and within minutes, her pain dissipated. Her eyes filled with tears and she smiled. The next morning, she was back in the OR pain-free."
How do you see your role as a medical advisor impacting how we educate customers and medical providers?
"My intention is to introduce a transformative technology to my western medical colleagues and give it the legitimacy it deserves. I want to bring more research into this space to increase adoption."
4. Philosophy & Vision
What excites you most about where Signal Relief is headed next?
"Disrupting the status quo of pain management."
How do you see signal interference technology fitting into the future of pain management?
"Clear alternative to medications, reusable and reliable."
What would you say to someone who’s skeptical or unsure about trying a Signal Relief patch?
"I was more than skeptical. I thought it was snake oil and that I would prove my colleague Chad wrong, but I can admit when I am wrong. Signal and Jovi work, and all you have to lose by trying them is your skepticism. They work or you get your money back. For the 15% of individuals that do not get relief, rest assured you will get your money back."
Dr. Beth DuPree’s story is one of transformation, both personally and professionally. From a lifelong healer to a passionate advocate for Signal Relief, her journey reflects the promise of technology that is changing how we think about pain management. What started with skepticism has become a mission: to disrupt the status quo, offer drug-free relief, and give people their lives back.
Signal Relief isn’t just a patch, it’s part of a movement toward a future where pain relief is safe, non-invasive, and accessible to all.
